My name is Sandra Segall, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Montgomery, Alabama. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology and did 4 years of coursework toward a doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

I grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. At age 16, I became involved in the Careers in Mental Health Program at Boston State Hospital. It was then that I decided to dedicate my professional life to mental health care.

I attended Girls’ Latin School for 6 years, and later Boston University, where I graduated in 1969 cum laude with a degree in Psychology. The following year, I received a Master’s degree in psychology, then spent the next four years training in the field. Following an internship in Clinical Psychology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, I participated in traineeships at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Boston Veterans Hospital, and Boston University Medical Center.

I was in class XV of Leadership Montgomery, and have been interviewed many times by the Montgomery Advertiser. I am a Certified Child Custody Mediator, an appointment by the Supreme Court of Alabama. Most recently, I was interviewed by WSFA-TV about micro-cheating.

I have been in practice as a therapist for 35 years. While I have extensive experience treating serious mental illness, my focus in private practice is high-functioning people having trouble, whether  individually, with children, or in relationships.

I bring compassion, empathy, and a wealth of experience to my therapeutic practice. I draw from multiple modalities to help you reach your treatment goals, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavior Modification, and Child Play Therapy for children. For couples, I use the Gottman Method and methods from the Couples Institute. With individuals, I often use Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, particularly when dealing with issues resulting from the family of origin. I also use Positive Psychology and Life Coaching to help those who are having career or relationship problems, and am a Solution Focused Counselor for short-term therapy.

Most importantly, I tailor treatment to each individual client, using multiple methods concurrently to help you be a better you. Together, we can develop a plan to get to a healthier, more fulfilling place in life. Recognizing you need help and reaching out is a sign of strength. I can’t wait to work with you.
